Course Overview

This three-week, self-paced course will provide telecommunications professionals with the insights they need to understand the multifaceted relationship between mobile technologies and climate change. The course discusses how the mobile industry is reducing its impact on climate change and enabling climate action in other sectors, as well as how other stakeholders can facilitate climate action across the mobile ecosystem.

By bridging mobile technology and environmental concerns, professionals are empowered to develop strategies, products, and services that promote sustainability while mitigating environmental impact. Equipped with this knowledge, organisations can better align efforts, drive positive change, and position themselves as leaders in sustainable practices through the power of mobile innovation.

Course Objectives

  • Understand the nature of climate change, what is causing it, and how it can be addressed.
  • Learn how digital and mobile technologies are affecting climate change.
  • Think about the carbon footprint of the mobile industry and how the industry is progressing on climate action.
  • Understand the benefits of energy efficiency in general and for the mobile sector in particular.
  • Learn how to measure, track, and improve the energy efficiency of mobile networks.
  • Reflect on the benefits of renewable energy for the mobile sector.
  • Learn about the challenges and opportunities that renewable energy poses to mobile network operators, including policy and regulatory implications.

This course provides a holistic understanding of leveraging mobile technologies for climate action across organizational functions. The course fosters a cross-functional mindset and is suitable for people in different areas of the industry, including:

Course Structure and Study Time

The course consists of four sessions, and each session includes a knowledge check and an assignment task. You will be granted access to the first session as soon as you enrol on the course.

It should not take you more than two to three hours of study time per week to complete the course in three weeks. You will have, however, ten weeks from enrolment to complete the course.

Course Completion Certificate

To qualify for a course completion certificate, you will need to:

  • view the four course sessions;
  • correctly answer all the questions in the knowledge checks you will find at the end of the sessions (you have unlimited attempts to pass the knowledge checks);
  • submit four assignments, which will need to be approved by the GSMA; and
  • fill out the course survey.
